I was at the Sony Convention 2013 at The Gardens to witness the official unveiling of the Xperia Z in Malaysia. It was a short event where the much anticipated Android smartphone got onto the hands of the local media for the very first time. I had a chance to play around with it and to be frank, I was a bit disappointed.
First and for most, the screen is not up to par with the other flagship Android smartphones from Samsung and HTC. The blacks are actually grey and the viewing angles left much to be desired. The colours look bright and vivid thanks to the Bravia Engine 2 but nothing could be done with the blacks.
Take nothing away from Sony, the hardware looks beautiful. It feels a bit too tall for my hands, though (I know, I have small hands). The waterproof feature bumps up the premium feel of the hardware but the down side to that, you would need to pry the flaps at the sides to get to your SIM card, microSD slot and micro USB port.
In the box, you'll get a Sony MH-EX300AP headset but no docking station included. The Xperia Z and Xperia ZL will be available starting March 15 with a retail price of
